Little Sioux River Water Trails Plan
Building Community Along 200 Miles of River
The Little Sioux River is an important part of Northwest Iowa’s communities and cultural landscape. Group Creative Services and the Iowa DNR are working together to plan for the future of more than 200 miles of the river, identifying opportunities to improve recreation, public access, safety and conservation while strengthening connections between the river and surrounding communities.
The Plan
Through research, site visits and conversations with people who know and use the river, the planning team will:
Look at existing river access, amenities, infrastructure and safety
Hear from residents, businesses, land managers and river users
Identify opportunities to improve access points, facilities, signage and public spaces
Explore ways to integrate the region’s history, culture and natural environment
Support river stewardship and habitat development
Create practical recommendations for future improvements and investment
The result will be an actionable plan that communities and partners can use to guide improvements along the Little Sioux River for years to come.
